Ethel Walker was born in Ayrshire., Scotland.
She studied at the Glasgow School of Art
from 1959-1964 under tutor David Donaldson.
Ethel Walker began her career as a teacher in Glasgow and then as the Head of Department at St Hilary's Girls School.
At the age of 27 realised that she was an artist first and devoted herself to painting.
The phrase 'Weather Pictures' has often been used in conjunction with Ethel Walker's work, as indeed her paintings often represent the changing skies and seas off the West Coast
of Scotland near her home in Argyll.
She is also well known for painting still life, usually floral studies.
Ethel Walker is one of the most successful female artists painting in Scotland today, regulary exhibiting in London .
Her work is held in many private and public collections throughout Europe, USA ,
Hong Kong and Australia, including
The Bank of Scotland, City of Edinburgh Art Collection and Herriot Watt University , Edinburgh.
